Ginebra vs Meralco’s Game 1 on Friday, October 13, sets the tone for the entirety of the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup Finals.
Or at least, the 7 p.m. Philippine local time tipoff at the Quezon Convention Center in Lucena should set the tone.
Last year begs to differ—LA Tenorio and the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel were blown away over the first game and lost the third game before staging for historic third consecutive Finals encounter.
Yet somehow this year still manages to feel different.
If LA Tenorio and his team pull it off on Friday, it’s an apparent continuation of last year. But if import Allen Durham quell the same-look Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, one could argue the entire outlook of the series goes the opposite direction.
Meralco Bolts secured the finals spot after sweeping the Star Hotshots in the best-of-5 semifnals. Meanwhile, Barangay Ginebra is back again in the finals after eliminating TNT KaTropa in 4 games.
