The De La Salle-Health Sciences Institute, the medical school of De La Salle University in Dasmariñas City, Cavite, placed third after registering an overall score of about 79.67%. Velez College, widely known for offering allied health degrees in Cebu City, followed with an overall score of 78.59%.
University of the East Ramon Magsaysay-Memorial Medical Center in Quezon City made the 5th rank on the list for 2014-2018, ahead of the Cebu Doctors’ University in Mandaue City, Cebu at 6th rank, University of the Philippines-Manila at 7th rank, Silliman University in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental at 8th rank, Far Eastern University-Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation in Quezon City at 9th rank, and Saint Paul University in Iloilo City at 10th.
The ranking is based on the results of physical therapy licensure examinations from 2014 to 2018 plus other factors including accreditation status of the program in 2018 and 5-year average faculty-student ratio to find out which schools offering programs in physical therapy have the most valuable degree programs within the 5-year period to produce batch of examinees with high physical therapy licensure examination passing rates.
The ranking uses the same performance indicators as the Local Pulse School Rankings, however the measured time is 5 years or from 2014 to 2018. Details on the methodology are discussed here. Other possible factors which are possibly secondary variables in determining the best physical therapy schools in the Philippine are included in the disclaimer page. Factors such as international linkages, community involvement, employer reputation, research outputs, and research citations per faculty are not part of this study. These variables are assumed to be assessed by accrediting agencies such as PACUCOA, PAASCU, AACCUP, and CHEd, and thus they are integrated in the accreditation of the institutions.
To rank the schools, we took the weighted passing rate average of physical therapy licensure examinations from 2014 to 2018 (40%), the total number of examinees in the 5-year period (20%), and top performing examinees within 2014 to 2018 (10%) as the overall board exam performance, and the average faculty-student ratio from 2014-2018 (10%) and accreditation status of the physical therapy programs (20%) as other criteria. Note that the weighted passing rate average we used for 2014-2018 physical therapy licensure examinations were adjusted to 60% and above (unlike the PRC’s 80%), and minimum of 50 examinees (unlike PRC’s 50 minimum examinees per examination period).
