Typhoon Henry (Bagyong Henry) has strengthened as it continues to move towards extreme northern Luzon. The weather disturbance is forecast to threaten Taiwan, China, and Okinawa this week.

Henry (Matmo) was located based on all available data at 340 km Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes (15.1°N, 127.6°E), PAGASA said in its 5:00 a.m., July 21, 2014, latest weather bulletin.

Bagyong Henry is packing a maximum sustained winds of 130 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 160 kph.

Typhoon Henry is the third typhoon to threaten the western Pacific Basin in 2-3 weeks.

It is expected to continue to strengthen over the next few days and is forecast to strengthen into another typhoon category.

Batanes Group of Islands, Cagayan including Babuyan and Calayan Group of Islands were placed under Signal No. 1 (winds of 30-60 kph is expected in at least 36 hours).

PAGASA said Bagyong Henry and the enhanced Southwest Monsoon or “Habagat” are expected to bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms over Cagayan Valley, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region, Visayas and Aurora Province. Residents in these areas are advised to be alert against possible flashfloods and landslides.

It may make landfall in extreme Northern Luzon on Tuesday, PAGASA’s forecast track on Monday morning said.

State weather bureau said Typhoon “HENRY” is expected to be at 275 km East of Aparri, Cagayan by tomorrow morning and at 200 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes by Wednesday morning. By Thursday morning, it is expected to be at 655 km Northwest of Basco, Batanes.
