After a long break, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) returned to action on Sunday, October 19 with a double-header at the Philippine Arena.
New created teams KIA Sorentos and Blackwater Elite will be going head to head at the largest dome in the world following the opening ceremonies.
NLEX has also officially been approved as another new team in the PBA after a lengthy board meeting in April this year, which resulted from previous 10 teams to 13 teams but was decreased to 12 after NLEX owners bought the Air21 Express franchise.
KIA Sorentos is owned and managed by the Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC). Meanwhile, Ever Bilena Cosmetics, Inc. will manage Blackwater, and the Metro Pacific Investments Corporation (MPIC) for NLEX.
Perennial crowd favorites Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings then faced off against Talk ‘N Text Tropang Texters after the clash between KIA and Blackwater.
The league’s All-Filipino Philippine Cup conference will then resume its Wednesday-Friday-Saturday-Sunday schedule, at their normal game venues, namely the Smart Araneta Coliseum, the Cuneta Astrodome, and the Mall of Asia Arena. There are also reports that some of the games aside from the opening games will be held at the Philippine Arena.
Prior to the opening games, the season proper will be ushered in by the Chairman’s Ball on Oct. 14 at the Resorts World Manila.
