Xavier University set to honor Deles, Iqbal, and Ferrer

Controversies arise over having Mohagher Iqbal, Teresita Quintos-Deles, and Miriam Coronel-Ferrer as 2015 commencement awardees at the Xavier University in Cagayan de Oro.

The Ateneo school in Cagayan de Oro City is also set to give an Honorary Doctorate to Secretary Teresita Quinto-Deles of the Office of the Presidential Adviser for the Peace Process (OPAPP). She is also the commencement speaker of the 2015 commencement exercises of said school.

If you remember, the outspoken adviser sparked anger last week over clearing the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) from the Mamasapano incident. She even also rushed the approval of the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), ignoring the tragic deaths of the 44 Special Action Force (SAF) members in Mamasapano, Maguindanao last January 25.

According to The Manila Times, Secretary Deles tried to sway Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. into believing that the group should not be faulted for the deaths of the police commandos.

Meanwhile, Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) chief negotiator Mohagher Iqbal has also raised eyebrows after issuing statement that they did not know that wanted international terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir (Marwan) and bomb-maker Abdul Basit Usman were in their area in Mamasapano, Maguindanao. The MILF greatly contributed to the deaths of 44 PNP-Special Action Force personnel during the January 25 encounter with other combatants from the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Figthers.

Chief peace negotiator Miriam Coronel-Ferrer also created stir online after seeing that the creation of a Bangsamoro region was still in sight despite the major setback in the passage of the crucial Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL) in Congress.

The three controversial personalities, who are all involved in the Bangsamor Basic Law (BBL) issues, are given recognition “for their conscientious and patient efforts to engage in democratic dialogue and negotiations for peace in Mindanao,” according to the Xavier University website.
