NCR, 20 Provinces on alert as Tropical Storm Glenda heads toward Central Luzon

Tropical Storm Glenda Track (July 13, 2014)

Tropical Storm Glenda (Rammasun) continued its westward movement Sunday, July 13, 2014 as it entered Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) around 7 p.m.

Metro Manila and 20 provinces are on alert for heavy rains and winds as Tropical Glenda approaches Luzon islands. Glenda is expected to make a landfall in Central Luzon on Wednesday, July 16.

Local government units in the Luzon are now preparing for the possible onslaught of Glenda before the Wednesday. Bagyong Glenda is currently gaining strength as it moves closer to the Philippines, and is forecast to become a strong system once it hits the country Wednesday, July 16.

As of 6:00 pm, PAGASA said Glenda was located 1,100 kilometers east of Legazpi City, with maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour near the center, and gusts of up to 80 km/h.

It is forecast to move westward at a speed of 30 kph.

Estimated rainfall amount brought by Tropical Storm Glenda is from 7.5-155 mm (moderate – heavy) within the 400 km diameter of the Tropical Storm.

NDRRMC Executive Director USEC Alexander Pama has asked the regional offices of the Civil Defense and the local government units to alert residents living in low lying and critical areas.

Included in the 20 provinces which are on alert for Tropical Storm Glenda were Isabela, Mt. Province, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Quezon Province, Nueva Ecija, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Pampanga, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Laguna, Catanduanes, Camarines Norte, Ifugao, Benguet, and Abra.
