
A magnitude 6 earthquake struck off Zambales province on Sunday morning, January 10, 2015, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.
PHIVOLCS said the quake struck 43 kilometers southwest of San Antonio town at 3:31 a.m.
The depth of the quake, which was tectonic in origins, was recorded at 85 kilometers.
It was felt strongest at Intensity 4 in parts of Metro Manila including Pasig City, Pasay City, Manila City, Makati City, and Quezon City. Hagonoy in Bulacan, San Mateo in Rizal, and Obando in Bulacan also felt Intensity 4 quake.
An Intensity IV quake was described by PHIVOLCS as being “moderately strong.”
The quake was felt at Intensity 3 in Tagaytay City, San Miguel in Tarlac and Intensity 2 in Baguio City and Batangas City
PHIVOLCS said it is expecting aftershocks.
Meanwhile, PHIVOLCS said that there was no danger from a tsunami as the earthquake was too deep and the magnitude was not powerful enough to generate a seismic sea wave.
