A magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit Eastern Samar Tuesday evening, February 10, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake, which struck the area at 9:29 am, was centered 104 km northeast of Mercedes, Eastern Samar.

The focus was at a depth of 47 km. The quake was of tectonic origin.

Intensity IV was felt in Mercedes, Eastern Samar while Intensity III in Llorente, Hernani and Giporlos, Eastern Samar, Phivolcs said.

Intensity II was felt in Tacloban City; Borongan City and Sulat, Eastern Samar; Gandara, Samar; and Tolosa, Leyte while Intensity I in Surigao City.

No damage is expected from the quake, but Phivolcs added that there may be aftershocks.
