It was the first earthquake of at least 5.0 magnitude that PHIVOLCS monitored in the country after an earthquake hit Baguio City yesterday, prompting some schools to suspend Tuesday classes.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was tectonic in origin with 17 kilometers depth of focus and was recorded at 9:31 a.m.

In its initial bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the quake’s epicenter was at 91 kilometers southwest of Pangutaran, Sulu.

It was initially felt at Intensity III in Languyan, Tawi-tawi while Intensity II in Isabela, Basilan.

While PHIVOLCS said no damage was expected from the quake, aftershocks are possible.
