A magnitude-5.2 earthquake rocked the Surigao del Sur area Friday late afternoon, February 6, 2015 with the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology warning of possible aftershocks.
PHIVOLCS said the quake was recorded at 4:04 p.m., and was tectonic in origin.
In its initial bulletin, it said the epicenter was 36 km northeast of Cortes town in Surigao del Sur and was 5 kilometers deep.
The quake was felt at:
Intensity III – Carrascal, Surigao del Sur
Intensity II – Surigao City, Butuan City
Intensity I – Cabalian, Southern Leyte and Tacloban City
While no damage is expected, PHIVOLCS said aftershocks are likely.
