A magnitude 4.7 earthquake jolted Surigao del Norte on Wednesday later afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

PHIVOLCS said in a bulletin that the quake struck 17 kilometers north of Socorro town at 5:08 p.m. It had a depth of 43 kilometers.

Magnitude 4.7 Earthquake Intensities

Intensity V was felt in Carmen, Socorro and Gigaguit, Surigao del Norte while Intensity IV was felt in Mabua, Surigao City. Intensity III was recorded in Loreto, Dinagat Island; Burgos, Surigao del Norte; Butuan City; San Ricardo, Pintuyan, Southern Leyte; and Intensity II in Mainit, Surigao del Norte.

PHIVOLCS said aftershocks were expected.
