Class suspensions for November 13, 14, 15, 16, and 17 in all levels in Metro Manila have been officially announced to give way to 31st ASEAN Summit.

The first announcement was made on October 10 by Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Danilo Lim in a tweet that Metro Manila mayors “unanimously move for the suspension of classes on November 16-17 for the ASEAN.”

The decision to suspend classes was reached during the 9th Metro Manila Council Meeting. The MMC is composed of all mayors in the metropolis.

On Monday, Oct. 23, Malacañang through Proclamation 332 declared special nonworking days in Metro Manila, Bulacan, and Pampanga on November 13 to 15 (Monday to Wednesday) to give way to the same 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits.

The ASEAN events will be held in Metro Manila and Clark Field in Pampanga.

The two announcements resulted to a long vacation for students in Metro Manila.

Employees who work on special non-working days are paid at least 130% of the sum of their daily rate and cost of living allowance.

The 31st ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, chaired by the Philippines, will bring together leaders from Southeast Asia and its dialogue partners – Australia, Canada, China, the European Union, India, Japan, New Zealand, Russia, South Korea and the US.
