A number of local government units announced the suspension of classes in all levels on July 10, 2018 Tuesday, in anticipation of bad weather caused by habagat, the southwest monsoon, enhanced by strong typhoon Gardo.
The state weather bureau said Metro Manila, MIMAROPA, CALABARZON, Bicol region, Western Visayas and the provinces of Bataan and Zambales will continue to encounter cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms as typhoon Gardo continues to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Typhoon Gardo (Maria) maintained its strength on Monday evening, July 9, as it continued to move over the northern part of the Philippine Sea.
PAGASA warned residents against possible flashfloods or landslides in the affected areas.
In its 11 p.m. weather bulletin, PAGASA spotted Gardo’s center at located 860 kilometers east northeast of Basco, Batanes.
The typhoon continues to have maximum winds of 185 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 225 km/h.
PAGASA said Gardo would continue to head west northwest at 30 kilometers per hour.
The rest of the country, meanwhile, will also experience localized thunderstorms which may also bring landslides and flashfloods, PAGASA said.
