Some areas and schools are anticipated to declare class suspensions on Wednesday, January 24, 2018, due to transport strike and simultaneous rallies at LTFRB offices nationwide.

The transport group Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON) has set to stage nationwide demonstrations on January 24 to protest the government’s public utility vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

In a press conference Sunday, George San Mateo, National President of the Pinagkaisang Samahan ng mga Tsuper at Operator Nationwide (PISTON), said the group will stage protests in front of Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) offices.

Inquirer reported that the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) board member and spokesperson Aileen Lizada made the statement that they are willing to hold talks on Wednesday with transport groups opposed to the government’s modernization program.

“We’re open to dialogue. We have long been open to dialogue and we’ve always been telling George to do the right thing and talk to us instead of holding rallies,” she said.

The transport group leader is out on bail after he was arrested early December last year on charges for violation of Section 20 (k) of the The Public Service Act.

Meanwhile, the following areas and schools have announced class suspensions for Wednesday, January 24, 2018 due to the status of Mayon Volcano.
