
Here is the latest update for Typhoon Luis (Bagyong Luis) by the state weather bureau’s severe weather bulletin update.
“Luis” has intensified into a Typhoon and continues to move towards Cagayan-Isabela Area, PAGASA said.
At 10:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2014 PAGASA said Typhoon Luis was 290 km Northeast of Virac, Catanduanes with maximum sustained winds of 120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
In its 11:00 p.m. storm bulletin, PAGASA said Bagyong Luis is seen moving west northwest at 20 kph and by Sunday evening it will be 86 km Southeast of Tuguegarao City.
PAGASA weather models indicate that “Luis” may cross Cagayan Valley and exit the Philippine area of responsibility by Monday evening.
Typhoon Luis Storm Signals
Under Storm Signal Number 3, with winds of 101-185 kph expected in at least 18 hours, are:
- Isabela
- Cagayan
These areas are expected to experience moderate to heavy damage, particularly in the agricultural and industrial sectors. There may be widespread disruption of electrical power and communication services.
Under Storm Signal Number 2, with winds of 61-100 kph expected in at least 24 hours, are:
- Calayan and Babuyan Group of Islands
- Apayao
- Kalinga
- Ifugao
- Mt. Province
- Nueva Vizcaya
- Quirino and
- Northern Aurora
These areas are expected to sustain significant damage, including the uprooting of trees and unroofing of homes made from light materials.
PAGASA added that travel by air or sea is risky.
Under Storm Signal No. 1, with winds of 45-60 kph expected within the next 36 hours, are:
- Batanes Group of Islands
- Ilocos Norte
- Ilocos Sur
- Abra
- La Union
- Benguet
- Pangasinan
- Nueva Ecija
- Rest of Aurora
- Polillo Island
- Catanduanes
“Residents in low-lying and mountainous areas under Signals 3, 2 and 1 are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides,” PAGASA warned.
The weather agency added that those living in coastal areas should keep alert against big waves or storm surges generated by “Luis”
PAGASA also said “Luis” may bring rainfall of 8–20 mm per hour (heavy – intense) within the 500 km diameter of the Typhoon.
The combined effect of the Tropical Storm and the Southwest Monsoon will bring moderate to occasionally heavy rains and thunderstorms which may trigger flashfloods and landslides over Bicol Region and the provinces of Samar and Quezon while light to moderate rains and thunderstorms over Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon and Visayas.
