An AirAsia passenger plane with significant number of people on board overshot the runway at Kalibo International Airport in Kalibo, Aklan on Tuesday afternoon, December 30.
The AirAsia plane departed from Manila and arrived at Kalibo International Airport late Tuesday afternoon.
“Just landed in Kalibo on an AirAsia flight that overshot runway,” passenger and journalist Jet Damazo-Santos said.
“Engine was shut immediately, we were told to leave bags, deplane asap. Firetruck was waiting. Seems handled well,” . “Nobody seems to be hurt. Weather was bad because of #SeniangPH. Plane came to a very abrupt stop.”
Jet narrated that they were told a Cebu Pacific flight was not able to land at Kalibo International Airport causing the plane to return to Manila. She said that the AirAsia flight was delayed 2 hours.
She added that the elderly passengers of said flight are now getting blood pressure checked.
The Airbus A320-216 (RP-C8972) came to a halt on a grassy area beyond the runway. There were no injuries reported.
