This year’s rankings include 39 of the nation’s top mechanical engineering schools, based on overall board exam performance which includes number of examinees and top performing examinees and other factors.

To determine the best mechanical engineering schools for 2018 we took the weighted average of percentage ratings of examinees who passed the mechanical engineer licensure examinations in February and August this year. Note that the passing rates we used this year were adjusted to 60% and above (unlike the PRC’s 80%), and minimum of 20 examinees (unlike the PRC’s 50 minimum examinees).

We then narrowed the list by incorporating crucial factors, such as school’s total number of examinees for the year, and top performing examinees. Finally, we looked at the accreditation status and faculty-student ratio of the schools. What we found after such extensive research are the nation’s best schools to study mechanical engineering, which only features 39 out of the 182 colleges and universities offering undergraduate programs in mechanical engineering.

As of 2018, 39 institutions bested in mechanical engineering programs, which increased as compared to the 26 listed just the year before. Obtaining the top spot is the Batangas State University in Alangilan, Batangas City, the oldest higher education institution in the province of Batangas. The overall score increased based on the 2017 rankings, an 85.75% to now an 88.01%. Batangas State University has the major lead given that the next school is Saint Louis University, with an overall score of 87.86%. Both schools are accredited by the Commission of Higher Education (CHEd) as Centers of Development (COD) for mechanical engineering.
